Udayan Shalini Fellowships does not look at merit alone,
unlike most of the other scholarships. Designed to target girls from poor socio-economic
backgrounds, we have more emphasis on Need and Ambition. We have evolved a unique system,
whereby the girls are selected on an indigenously developed system called
NAT: Need, Ambition & Talent. We believe even
a mediocre girl could blossom and reach her true potential if she is given the right inputs.

Inspiring
Pledge
&
Badge of Honour
for Fellows

On the day of induction, all the new Fellows are administered an Oath
by a renowned person. The Fellows pledge to become empowered by educating themselves, being
honest and upright, as well as by empowering others. The Badge of Honour
displays their name and our
logo proudly. Both these activities are undertaken to develop self-esteem and a sense of
social responsibility in our Fellows. We have had some very
Eminent People to administer the oath for our Fellows.

Pyramidal
Mentor
ing programme

Udayan Shalini Fellowships is designed to be different from the usual
scholarship programmes. We have introduced a system of mentoring, where by Fellows from schools are
attached to a senior educationist, who acts as a
Mentor to them. These Mentors are chosen with great care. They motivate and guide Fellows
towards greater achievements, help them in realizing their dreams, facilitate the process of their
career related decisions, and act as a bridge between the Fellows and the organization
For Mentoring, we have developed a unique Pyramidal Mentoring System,
where a
girl from school is mentored by peer mentor, a senior Fellows
who is college, while the senior Fellow is mentored by the
senior mentor, who is an accomplished individual in his/her
own right. An established and accomplished individual in
his/her own field. Someone, who feels for the cause and is
willing to spend about two hours per week for the Fellow; she
also needs to be residing near where our Fellows live.

Motivational Workshops

Economic handicap, along with lack of knowledge and guidance from parents makes
our Fellows less equipped to meet the cutthroat competition. This makes
it all the more important to take
steps for their empowerment and helping them evolve into productive citizens of tomorrow. With this
idea in mind, we organize motivational cum leadership Workshops, in which speakers from various fields
share their views and experiences. These workshops have been made an integral part of the system, as we
believe; this will broaden vision of our Fellows. Being highly interactive, these workshops provide them
with an opportunity to express themselves and to learn from each others' experiences. It is highly
encouraging to see that within a short span of time the Fellows have been able to gain confidence to
move on in life as well as imbibe in them social values and leadership qualities.

Residential Camps

We not only provide financial support to our Fellows but also believe in their holistic development and
developing one to one relationship with them. As the continuation of this very philosophy, we
in organize
two residential camps every year for our Fellows at our Greater Noida Udayan Ghar, where our orphaned
and abandoned girls live in long-term residential care. The camps are held for a week and this proximity
binds the Fellows with each other as well as affords them first hand experience of staying and working
with another disadvantaged group. Throughout the week, there are workshops on social and other issues,
computer skills classes, yoga and cultural activities.
We normally do it twice a year:
- In the month of June for School Fellows
- In the month of October for College Fellows
Due to the growing popularity, we are planning to increase the number of Camps from two to three in a year

Obligatory Social
Work

The Fellowship seeks to develop social responsibility in the Fellows through compulsory exposure
to social work for an Annual prescribed number of hours during their Fellowship tenure. It encourages the Fellows
to be not only passive recipients but become actively engaged in the process of Development. Besides taking
up teaching assignments for their neighborhood kids or such other services as are needed in their localities,
our Fellows are taken to the poorest communities for conducting campaigns and awareness drives. These
activities bring them a lot of confidence and self esteem as well as the vision of the societal ills and needs.

Evaluation and
Monitoring

It is utmost important for us to regularly monitor and evaluate the performance of our Udayan
Shalini Fellows. We have developed a three- monthly proforma wherein regular records are maintained
regarding the regularity of the Fellows in Motivational workshops, their participation in social work,
interaction with their mentors, and their academic performance. The Fellows have to fill up
Re-admission forms
after the
end of each academic year. The continuation of the Fellowship depends on the evaluation of the
performance of the Fellow.
