Udayan Ghar (home) for Girls, Jaipur
Udayan Ghar, Jaipur is the result of a promise not only made but kept with commitment by Ms. Rukmani Haldea. Attending an Udayan Care fundraiser, Ms. Haldea promised she would become part of the Udayan Care family on retirement from her illustrious career in the civil services. The day she did, she began a new journey that of setting up an Udayan Ghar in the pink city, the second Ghar outside the Delhi & NCR region. Working with her is a wonderful team, comprising of Asha Bhatnagar, Manish Kasliwal, Ritika Kasliwal, Ritu Joshi, Rohan Haldea, Sharmishtha & Sandeep Yadav and Anand Seth.
A beautiful pink building, the foster home is located in Nandpuri. Though in the heart of the city, the residential colony is surprisingly peaceful. A two storey building, it is well furnished and specially designed for 14-16 girls to live in comfort, complete with a common sitting area, dining area, bedrooms and a study, A lovely terrace and an outdoor play area are favourites with the girls.
The home resounds with the laughter of eleven little girls, basking in the love and warmth of their Mentor Mothers, Ms. Rukhmani Haldea, Ms. Sheela Bahri and Ms Madhu Jhala, who are nurturing them into confident human beings and our miracles of hope. Each child, comes with her own past experiences of a deep sense of loss, of being neglected and at times being abandoned, making every day is a challenge for the Mentors Mothers. The caregivers, themselves having grown up in government run homes, understand the children and look after them with great care and love. Their social worker, a mother herself, also brings warmth and expertise to the home.
Soon these youngsters will be moving into their very own Udayan Ghar, as land with a partially constructed building has already been purchased with the help of our generous donors!
