Foreign volunteers are an integral component of our overall Udayan
philosophy. Through foreign volunteering our children gain a
greater worldwide understanding, international exposure and become
a part of a global society where they are able to integrate and
interact with all walks of life. By exposing our children to the
diversity of this world and the people within it we hope to offer
them the tools to become a part of it in their own chosen way.
Gaps that may have formed through the challenges of their
upbringing are diminished by contact and acceptance within the
greater world. The influence of determined, educated and
compassionate mentors has a truly positive effect and inspires
them to greater growth and belief in themselves.
We are very fortunate to have had volunteers from many countries all around the
world including, Australia, USA, Holland, Denmark, Finland and England. We have
also formed relationships with Universities worldwide such as Melbourne
University and Princeton University and are constantly open to developing new
connections.
For students wishing to enhance their experience for their studying curriculum
we can tailor internships to suit your specific needs; or, those simply wishing
to contribute to society and make a difference in the lives of our amazing
children, there are so many ways in which you can become involved. This is an
experience that will have an everlasting effect on our children and will also
open your own eyes and heart to the challenges, generosity and genuine spirit of
humanity.
If you would prefer to stay in budget lodging in Delhi where you can come and go
between children’s homes and also be involved in the running of the organization
through work in our head office, we can assist you in arranging this
accommodation. However, if you would rather stay in one of our Udayan Ghar's
(children’s homes) we can organize this for a minimal charge. Two of our homes
are set up for volunteers to have their own room and facilities, the remainders
have much less space and living would be directly with the children.
We can also offer volunteering roles within our other projects. These include
our scholarship program, HIV outreach program, vocational education such as
computer training and administrative work in our head office where we always
need extra hands.
We prefer volunteers to spend a minimum of 2 months; this time frame allows for
greater connection between children and volunteers, in turn giving the whole
placement greater sustained value. As this type of role is outside of habitual
routines, a certain amount of adjustment time is usually required. The only other requirement we must
insist on is total fluency in the English language this includes both written and
verbal skills.
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a
listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring; all of which
have the potential to turn a life around…..”
…..Are you ready to turn a life around?
