NEW USF CHAPTERS

We welcomed two new chapters into our USF family:  Greater Noida and Mumbai, saw the launch of Udayan Shalini Fellowship Programme in their cities. Now, we have successfully made our presence in 13 cities, 9 states and reached to over 5,000 young girls towards gaining higher education, dignity and economic independence.

USF INDUCTION CEREMONY

Finally, 3 months long selection procedure has come to an end, and new fellows have joined the USF family. The selection was done on the basis of NAT (Needs, Ambitions and Talent) assessment, written test and interviews.  Continuing the legacy of our programme, a grand induction ceremony was conducted for all our new Shalinis across the chapters. We have successfully conducted the induction ceremony in the chapters: Delhi, Dehradun, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Haridwar and soon would be conducting in the other chapters.

Delhi Chapter conducted its 15th induction ceremony and selected 50 new girls for a long-term financial aid for higher education.  Sandeep Jain (Commissioner of Income Tax, Ministry of finance), Subhash Oswal Jain (Salahkar Samiti- Member of NBMSME, Govt of India) and Subhash Goel (renowned Social Worker) motivated the girls with their addresses as chief guests. During the ceremony, 50 girls received their first cheques. Certificates were also awarded to the fellows of 10th batch, who completed their fellowship successfully. S L Jain (our Convener and Ex principal of MSMS school, where the function was held) inspired the girls with his encouraging words.

Our Gurgaon Chapter conducted 5th induction ceremony and welcomed 40 new Shalinis in the USF family. Ruchika Arun (Head Systems & Ledger Control-GFS India) and Arpita Agrawal (Head- Finance Change India), from the RBS group, were the Chief Guests.  Our chief guests conducted the oath ceremony, distributed their first fellowship cheques and motivated the girls to speak up for their rightful place in society as empowered women through this wonderful platform.

Mumbai Chapter conducted its 1st induction ceremony by welcoming 30 Shalinis in the USF family. It was the inaugural launch of the Mumbai Chapter and Rahul Bose (Bollywood Actor & Philanthropist) conducted the oath ceremony and distributed cheques to Shalinis.  Sanjeev Gupta (Trustee, Udayan Care), Ricky Surie (Chief Mentor of the Programme), Pooja Mehra (Convener of USF Mumbai Chapter), Smita Verma (USF Core committee member & Alumna-Delhi) and Jyoti Aute (Alumna- Aurangabad) inspired the girls with their motivational speeches, in the presence of the parents and other guests and the newly formed committee, who worked day and night to make the chapter possible.

35 Shalinis were inducted in our Dehradun Chapter.  Ashok Kumar (IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Uttarakhand),  B.C.K. Mishra (Director Operations, UJVNL, Uttarakhand), Dr. Alaknanda Ashok (Director, Women Institute of Technology) and Padmini Sambasivam (Principal, Welham Girls School) were the Chief guests, while Dr. Daljit Kaur, our core committee member was the compere. Vimal Dabral (Convener) delivered the Vote of Thanks. 

Haridwar Chapter selected 35 new Shalinis at the 5th induction ceremony.  Prakash Chand (Executive Director, BHEL), S.K. Agarwal (General Manager-HR, BHEL) were the chief guests and delivered inspirational lectures, conducted oath ceremony and distributed cheques to the newly inducted fellows as well as to the girls of 1st batch which was entirely funded by BHEL.

KOLKATA: Theatre Festival -'Mahabharat Revisited'

Our Shalinis’ from the Kolkata chapter participated in a theatre festival -'Mahabharat Revisited' and performed at plays- Draupadi and Chakravyuh at ‘Birla Sabhaghar Auditorium’. It was truly an opportunity for our Shalinis to perform at the venue - one of the most sophisticated auditoriums located in the heart of the city.

KUDOS TO OUR KIDS

Our girls have really made us proud! For the year 2016, Surja, from Udayan Ghar Programme, has been selected as the Chief Editor of ‘Delhi Children’s Times’ and Naramdi has been appointed as its Associate Editor.



ICEB JOURNAL

We have released our 6th issue of the “Institutionalised Children Explorations and Beyond” journal.  ICEB journal serves as a forum for sharing studies, discussions, debates, and research on Alternative Care with a focus on South Asian countries.

TRAININGS

 Another feather in our cap! For 18 days, Udayan Ghar team trained over 240 carers from 15 government childcare institutions on standards of care, roles and responsibilities, needs of children and effective communication. One of our biggest training initiatives yet!

 Udayan Care as a technical partner conducted 3 days workshop on “Building Capacities on Child Protection Care Officer” for District Child Protection Officers, Child Welfare Officers, Counsellors, etc. Many thanks to Women and Child Development Department- Madhya Pradesh and UNICEF for giving us this opportunity!

CLIMBING TO NEW HEIGHTS

  • Udayan Care won ‘GuideStar India Transparency Awards’- Gold Certification!
  • Dr. Kiran Modi (Managing Trustee Udayan Care), was selected to participate in Leadership Open Quest in Kenya. A quest which led her to discover the fellow Questers from 18 countries, as well as social enterprises and cultural, tribal traditions of Kenya first-hand. Thanks, Leaders Quest, for this huge opportunity!
  • Dr. Kiran Modi also addressed the key note on ‘Ensuring Rights: Providing Protection to Children’ at Home of Hope (HOH), San Francisco, USA, in their annual gala.
  • She also made a presentation on ‘Mental Health of Children in Institutional Care’, in the Caritas India organized Conference on Child Rights.
  • The great opportunity for Udayan Care came at the ‘International Alternative Care Conference: Building on the Momentum’ at Geneva, where she presented a research on our working with young people, in a poster on “Making a Successful Transition from Children’s Homes to Independence’.
