Getting Aware, Giving Back!

To instill a desire to give back to society in our students, we regularly conduct social awareness campaigns. Our Udayan Shalini Fellows from Jaipur Chapter conducted a rally on the occasion of “Cancer Survival Day” in collaboration with Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Center. Thousands of people gathered along with our Shalinis to honor cancer survivors and to show the world that life does not come to an end when one is diagnosed with cancer. Rajkumari Diya Kumari (Member of Parliament) flagged off the rally and a Nukkad Natak was too performed on the occasion.

Shalinis march to make Gurugram roads safer: Paying Forward

On 17 March, 2018, a group of 55 Shalinis from the Udayan Shalini Fellowship Programme along with 20 Genpact employees carried out a march in Gurugram, promoting road safety.

The incidents of reckless driving and irresponsible road usage have cost many innocents their lives and families their loved ones. This initiative promoted road safety rules among the villagers through charts and placards while our empowered Shalinis and Genpact volunteers educated them on traffic guidelines.

Kavita, a recipient of the USF fellowship from Gurugram chapter, of Batch 2 says, “I had a great experience in this campaign. I felt so good making people aware about traffic rules and the best thing was that people were paying attention to us, fulfilling our aim of spreading awareness.”

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure: TB awareness campaign.

According to WHO, around 2.8 million people have developed TB-related issues in India, which makes it imperative to create awareness about Tuberculosis, and acquaint people of examining early symptoms, causes and treatment as well as the importance of visiting the doctor.

As we aim towards a healthy future, it is critical to fuel ourselves with knowledge on the prevalent diseases in the country. Convener, Mr. Vimal Dabral, of Dehradun Chapter of Udayan Shalini Fellowship Programme, led a door-to-door awareness campaign on Tuberculosis along with 65 Shalinis.

Alisha, a recipient of the USF fellowship from the Gurugram chapter, of Batch 8 feels that, Tuberculosis is a fatal disease and people in our community do not pay much attention to the symptoms of TB and even if they do, they do not receive timely medical attention. I really felt happy in spreading awareness of the same.”

SPREADING THE SPIRIT OF THE YOUTH: VIDIT AGARWAL

“Sometimes, they did not listen to me. It was difficult to convince them. So I tried to get a middle way which was agreed by all.”

He took up the project to interact, assist children at the home, and even before we realized he become their go-to person for everything. In spite of being very young, Vidit showed tremendous maturity in dealing with the children and influencing them to choose, what is good as opposed to what is not. Vidit feels that he has gained much more than he was giving.

“I think my affiliation with Udayan Care helped me evolve. It has made me more responsible and enhanced my leadership skills. Managing the children altered the way I think, I now make decisions keeping various aspects in mind. I feel, I have also become more caring towards others and want to earn their respect,” says Vidit who has committed to continue volunteering at the home despite having board exams in 2019.
