Udayan Ghar III, New Manglapuri, Sultanpur, Mehrauli, New Delhi



In Delhi, it is rare to find a place with such clean air as New Mangalapuri, in Sultanpur area of Mehrauli, a cluster of habitation in an area otherwise flush with greenery, in the South Delhi suburbs.

The Udayan Ghar III for girls is in a lane off the main Mehrauli road. This Ghar is housed in a two-bedroom flat and has a whole basement's worth of extra space (almost enough for a bowling alley). So the kids have a table tennis table, a sprawling study area in the basement in addition to living, sleeping, eating and study spaces in the flat above. Everything in flat gleams and there's a brisk, efficient air about the rooms and corridors. 13 girls and a caregiver share two bedrooms, a nice sitting cum eating area and The bedrooms have recently got smart bunk beds to save leg space. Additionally, there are neatly laid out cupboards as well as shoe racks.

Here, maximum activities concentrate in the spacious basement, which proudly displays its inhabitants' harmonium, computers, well-stocked library and board games. The basement is divided with a partition, neatly laid out in play areas and study areas. In the play area they have a table tennis table, which all of them look forward to play on. The study area also chips in as group therapy room as well as for individual counselors.

Udayan Ghar III has not 1, but 5 Mentor Mothers, who troop in according to their roster and keep things and children very, very orderly. All the girls are very friendly; love to have visitors; participate in household chores; study hard and actively take part in all the co-curricular activities.

Girls are going to schools like Sanskriti and CSKM; with complete fee waiver in Sanskriti and subsidized fee in CSKM. One special child, goes to a special school. Another child received admission in an internationally renowned Sagar School, Rajasthan, last year. We are grateful to the school managements for partnering with us in the education of the children and shaping the future of our children. One of the elder girls has completed her vocational training in Travel & Tourism and is working with a well-known travel company while the other has been given away in marriage.
