Udayan Care is committed to including the village
child within the range of services being provided. We have partnered with
Sat Krishna Trust, who has given us the infrastructure to start an Udayan
Ghar (Home) as part of their overall Integrated Village Development Programme
in a village, Narsinghpur in Gurgaon, in Delhi's neighbouring state of Haryana.
The
beautiful building has 4 lovely bedrooms, each housing 4-5 beds,
children's cupboards and their individual study tables. Besides the open
kitchen with eating areas, children have a computer room and tuition
rooms. There are 2 volunteers' rooms too. Set up in a village ambience,
the Home is designed aesthetically to suit the village atmosphere.
Children have access to great play areas where they play cricket, football
and cycle. They also have table tennis to try their hands on. Central to
the place is the common room, where they watch TV, carry out group
activities and workshops. There is a beautifully designed office room too,
which has a dome; this room also acts as an individual counselor’s room.
This Home has 22 boys. All of them have been admitted in Roseland Public
School. We have 2 Mentor Mother and a couple
which stays with them as caregivers.
Just as we have a Computer Center at
Jagshanti Udayan Ghar in Greater NOIDA for the neighbouring community, we have also
set up a computer center
within the campus where
the Gurgaon home is situated; as we have received 10 computers from DFID and funding
from Microsoft and World Links. The center is very popular with our children as well
as the village people.
