There are number of ways in which you can get involved in volunteer work- all you need is a little time and energy. In return you will be rewarded with a sense of personal
achievement and satisfaction.

Mentoring has been one of the fastest growing areas of volunteering in recent years. It is a process where a person (the mentor) provides support, training, and guidance to a less experienced, usually young person (the mentee) and encourages continued learning, and improves the self-esteem of the mentee.

Mentors are good listeners, people who care, people who want to help young people bring out strength that are already there. Mentors provide their mentees with an experienced friend who is always ready to help in any number of different situations.

Mentor Mothers for Children's Homes

Choosing to become a Mentor Mother is a fantastic way to participate in strengthening the community. Mentor Mothers are highly educated ladies, experienced in child development, who voluntarily commit themselves to bringing up these children. Their motivation is only their compassion and their desire to make a life worthwhile for at least a few number of children.

They volunteer to become like mother- a friend, philosopher and guide to the children. They supervise and organize the health and nutrition program, education and co-curricular programs, outings and workshops of the children placed in their care. They own responsibility for imparting good value systems to the children, hugging them to soothe their emotional traumas and pain and to run to the doctor when they scrape their knee at sports!
Although the mentor mothers do not live with the children, they form part and parcel of their everyday lives.

Anybody, with
love, compassion, tons of patience and willing to spend about two hours a day can qualify to be a Mentor Mother. So, step forward and relive the experience of bringing up your child.

Mentor for Udayan Shalini Fellows

Udayan Shalini Fellowship programme reaches out to disadvantaged girls who live with their natural families but their parents are not able to afford the cost of their education. Defining their
Need, Ambition and Talent (NAT), we identify them and offer the suitable candidates scholarship. The idea is to develop the overall personality of the girls, to make them stronger people who are capable of independent thought and decision-making.
Mentor for Udayan Shalini Fellows counsels the fellow and guides her when needed. They devote minimum of 6-8 hours per month with their fellows and encourage them to stay motivated and focused on their education. They provide individual attention, counselling and grooming to the fellows.

A Mentor's main purpose is to help a young person define individual goals and find ways to achieve them.

Senior educationists, directors from the department of education, former principals, professors and teachers commit their time and effort to our Udayan Shalini Fellows towards achieving a wider worldview and personality development.

Corporate Mentor

Today, Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) finds expression in holistic corporate involvement to help the disadvantaged. Many Corporates encourage employees to do volunteering work and even provide paid time for this.

A Corporate Mentor provides support, perspective, insight, information and guidance. Corporate Mentors are expected to provide support in the professional development and growth of their mentee.

Udayan Care-ivolunteer has jointly brought out an unique concept of Corporate Mentoring, where our children visit corporate offices for weekly mentoring sessions. The corporate culture of higher education, discipline and work ethics widens the children's world view and aids better goal setting.

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) and Xansa Ltd. have already joined hands with us by mentoring boys from Mayur Vihar Udayan Ghar and girls from Sant Nagar Udayan Ghar respectively.
We are looking for more Corporates to join in and improve the lot of the disadvantaged.
