Hema Mehto's Story

Hema got acquainted with us through the recommendation of one of our student from the previous batch. Graphic & Print design (MAST) course is the one which piqued her interest and gave her the confidence of getting the opportunity to have a bright career. She wanted to register for our course prior to this batch; however, all the seats were occupied. Later, she joined the Youth Leadership Centre and under our Youth Voices programme, she learned media making where she prepared a documentary, named ‘Don’t judge us’, along with her team. After waiting for five months, she got the opportunity to enroll in the second batch of Graphic & Print Design course (MAST).

Hema, an introvert by nature, comes from a middle class joint family where her father is retired from his job. During the screening process, which is a mandate for all applicants to undergo, she stated, “I have only one reason to join this course, and that is to be financially independent as soon as possible in order to give financial support to my family”. This is due to the fact that her father faced many difficulties in trying to manage the household expenses.

During the training process of Graphic & print design (MAST) course, the creativity shown by Hema was highly appreciated by her teachers as well as the industry experts. In addition to this, her timely completion of tasks by using the proper instructions had also been noticed and appreciated by her trainers as well as mentors. Her creative work is done by the use of sketch, color theory, design theory and technical tools with Adobe creative cloud suite. Her enthusiasm in getting the opportunity to be part of this programme can be seen in her own testimony:

“I don’t have the words to express how I feel in getting the opportunity to become a part of this Youth Leadership Programme. Here, I received the chance to learn a highly professional course, which had a proper focused curriculum, and that has been instrumental in grooming me in the field of Graphic Designing. It is only because of my trainers, mentors and industry experts that I have been able to learn so much stuff in such less duration. Now I am able to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Lightroom and in addition to this, my training also included enhancing my soft skills, my English communication and financial literacy, which has acted as a catalyst in building up my confidence level”

After five months of training, Hema got selected for an internship in the renowned company, Incubate Advertising Pvt Ltd (Noida), where she interned for two months and earned Rs.4000 as the stipend amount. This internship paved the way for her future and helped her acquire a job in ADR Publishing Pvt Ltd (Indirapuram GBD) as a Graphic Designer- Trainee with a salary of Rs.8000 per month. Within one year, she was promoted to the title of Graphic Designer with the salary of Rs.14000 per month. According to her employer, Hema is a sincere, dedicated and an extremely hard working girl, who will surely become a creative graphic designer in the near future.
