Masti ka Udan Khatola- Journey of Joy

Summer camp is a special type of set up where children from all the 13 homes come together within the camp setting, children develop a sense of independence as they try new adventures away from home. Summer camps are known for providing a safe environment where children gain self-confidence as they learn new skills. Camp is also a place where children develop a variety of social skills (e.g. communication, conflict resolution ability).

This year’s Summer Camp was themed “MastiKaUdanKhatola- Journey of Joy”. Various fun filled and learning activities and workshops under guidance of expert resource team kept the children engaged. Children learnt art and craft, theatre, paper mesh, dance, music etc. The children performed various skits and dance numbers on the stage.

The summer camp was also the time for rewards and recognitions of children. Academic performances were recognized and scholarship was awarded to the children. The occasion was graced by the presence of MsSuniti Singh, Superintendent of Police, Greater Noida (Rural) as chief guest and Guest of Honor, Ms Melissa from CanAssist.

While Varun Beverages and MrsSuman Modi kept children supplied with lovely Sherbats, namkeens, and soft drinks to fight the heat, our major Sponsors for the Summer Camp were National Thermal Power Corporation ( NTPC) and PFC.

Robyn Beeche Award

On 16th June, the finale of Summer Camp 2016, children from Udayan Ghar Programme competed for the Robyn Beeche Award. The Robyn Beeche Award was started in 2015 in the memory of beloved Udayan Care supporter Robyn Beeche by her family and Udayan Care Australia as a celebration of the creativity which was so dear to her.

The most exciting part of this year’s summer camp was the, “Robyn Beeche Award for Best Short Film” themed “a day in my life”, the third edition of Robyn Beeche Award. Cash prize of rupees, 10,000 is disbursed every year in the loving memory of Robyn Beeche, renowned fashion photographer and friend of Udayan Care. The children came up with great enthusiasm, worked in groups, acted and recorded important events of their life. A total of 10 entries were received that were played before the jury of 3 members who were professionals from film making industry.A cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- was distributed among the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Presenting our model and Research to the World

Udayan Care got opportunities to present its model of Udayan Ghars and its research around its practice of Child protection and standards of care in 2 international conferences, in Dublin and Montreal.

While at Dublin it was a poster presentation by Dr Kiran Modi at the “International World Congress on Family Law and Child Rights”. The poster showcased the effectiveness of Udayan Care's Aftercare program and how it uses the ecological developmental framework to benefit its young adults so that they are able to become confident, independent and resilient young adults. The poster also presented a participatory survey results, participated by our young people in our Aftercare and presented their own point of view.

The 6th Conference for the “International Society for Child Indicators’ held at Montreal, Canada from June 28 – 30, 2017 , was an opportunity to present an Oral Paper, which was done by Dr Modi. The paper presented was on “Developing Child Rights Indicators through a longitudinal study to improve child care in India”. More details of the paper presented can be seen at
