VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT:  KARTHIK

In 2014, American student Karthik joined Udayan Care as a intern in our head office.  During his time, he regularly visited one of our boys’ homes in Mayur Vihar.  While there, he grew very close to the children.  But he also grew to notice a troubling concern:  there was only one desktop in home -- not nearly enough for all the children!  Soon he learned this was the case at most of our homes.

It was then that he decided he would get laptops for all of the homes.

Three years later, he has run two successful fundraisers in the U.S., one last year and one this year.  Each time, he returns to India to bring back two more laptops for our children.  Now he has given laptops to two homes, but he is committed to give laptops to the eleven other homes!

Of course, though, it isn’t just the laptops which brings Karthik back to India.  It is the children of Mayur Vihar which truly bring him home.  They are the ones who started his laptop quest, but they are also the ones closest to his heart.

“This home has really become a second home for me, because the kids and I really bonded. They became little brothers literally.
