Getting Aware, Giving Back!

To instill a desire to give back to society in our students, we regularly conduct social awareness campaigns. Our Udayan Shalini Fellows from Jaipur Chapter conducted a rally on the occasion of “Cancer Survival Day” in collaboration with Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Center. Thousands of people gathered along with our Shalinis to honor cancer survivors and to show the world that life does not come to an end when one is diagnosed with cancer. Rajkumari Diya Kumari (Member of Parliament) flagged off the rally and a Nukkad Natak was too performed on the occasion.

OUR SUPER ACTIVE VOLUNTEERS

Our strength emanates from our volunteers; one such is Nadia Stuewer from Canada. Nadia initially began by volunteering at one of our Children’s homes (Udayan Ghars) in Mehrauli. Her commitment soon grew to growing our donors’ list and pat came Datawind on board and donated tabs for our children. She also supported our Skill Centre by organising various pro-bono stalls for our products under our banner of Sukriti, as well as by connecting us with Canadian embassy for Valentine’s Day celebration. Our skill centre made beautiful cards for the Canadian embassy.

Similarly, our ASOS volunteers have been a great strength for us. Since last 4 years, they regularly visit our Udayan Ghars. This year again they spent 10 unforgettable days at our Udayan Ghars, ranging from Greater NOIDA, NOIDA to Mayur Vihar, and involved children in various extra-curricular activities. Our children have fallen in love with the new look of their rooms, which they painted painstakingly, as well as with the asos volunteers. It was a tearful adieu to each other both from the volunteers and children!!

THANKS TO OUR INTERNS!

Our approach is based on the belief that each person can contribute something in their own unique way. Therefore, we welcome Interns and volunteers with open heart!

Past two months turned out to be extremely blessed for us when we received interns from esteemed colleges, like Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Xavier Institute of Management, Delhi University, O.P Jindal Global University, IMT Ghaziabad, School of Inspired Leadership, etc. These students turned out to be champions in the task assigned to them.  Our staff members too played amazing role of the mentors.

A team of 4 interns, Mihir, Sayantan, Saumya and Shikhar, assisted our Communications department and supported them in various projects starting from Social Media management to Digital Marketing as well as Content development for the website. The other team, Pranav and Jaysheel, supported the Volunteers Department and the Communications department in launching their Enterprise resource planning systems by validating the current data and reporting issues of data integrity. Another group of interns, Alina, Aakanksha, Pearly, Aastha and Shreya, helped us in developing a photo gallery, making thank you videos for our donors as well as designed short videos on Mentoring and Volunteering.  The team from SOIL is assisting the organization in refining and enhancing our Pragnya fellowship programme as well as reviving our relationship with universities outside of India. And the IMT students helped us at the Skill Centre.

An EXPERT SESSION BY- ALUMNI

We strongly believe in maintaining a long-term bond with our students and invite alumni to engage with them and motivate them. Deepak Nailwal (an Alumni of Youth Leadership Centre) spent around 3 hours with our students of youth leadership programme and motivated them. He shared his experience of working with a profound company like Brightwaay. He also gave many useful tips to our students and talked on interesting topics like Digital mattprint, Digital painting, Visual communication, etc. Our students really enjoyed this session and the attraction of the session was when he taught the students how to make visual communication effective in Photoshop!

WINTER CARNIVAL

Enablers – whether they’re in the form of supporters or donors – help individuals achieve their dreams. They are catalysts whose assistance is invaluable because it brings in help in the form of partners, contributors and generous souls. CPM India and Khushiyon ki Gaadi organized once again this year, a Winter Carnival for our children of Udayan Ghars at Jagshanti Udayan Ghar for Girls, Greater Noida. Mr. Mandeep Singh, MD & CEO, CPM India and Mr. Prakash Pant, Director Operations, CPM India, Mr. Jaideep Singh (Khushiyon ki Gaadi), along with their team took time out from their busy schedules and celebrated winter carnival with our children. Mr. Akhil Sachdeva, the famed singer was the chief guest of the event and he regaled the children with his lovely songs. At this event our children showcased their talent at the Udayan Care Talent Hunt Show.

Delicious eats, exciting games, beautiful décor, music and artificial snow fall to give a chilling feel was all set at the venue. Children, mentors and staff across different Udayan Ghars came together to enjoy the event and bless CPM and their volunteers for giving them such a great treat!.

SCIENCE CAMP

A group of Indian doctoral students and research professionals from around the globe joined hands to intrigue and motivate young students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. They organised a 2-day residential camp at the Jagshanti Udayan Ghar, Greater Noida for 80 children with an aim to expose them to the fun in science by having interactive demonstrations, exhibiting the latest developments in science.  This workshop was conducted by VIGYANshaala (Vision India GenY: Applied Sciences Network) which is co-founded by early career scientists Dr. Aditya Sadhanala, Cambridge University, UK, USF Alumna- Darshana Joshi, Cambridge University, UK, Shruti Sharma, Stony Brook University, USA, and Vijay Venugopalan, Politecnico Di Milano, Italy.

Some of the highlights are: Mr. Sandeep Goyal briefed children about his work and an app named as “KANU TALKS”, made for special children; Mr. Vijay Venugopalan and Ms. Shruti too conducted one complete hands-on session for the students; Ms. Shivani Semwal conducted a session on demonstrating basic concepts of physics and chemistry; Mr. Himadri took a session on “Energy” and showed an experiment where she generated electrical energy from potatoes; etc.

“The camp has been really productive and fun. I enjoyed doing some of the experiments and it was exciting like taking DNA from banana, solar panel activity in which electricity was taken from the sun, foam activity and many more."

ANNUAL SPORTS DAY

Like every year, this year again, our annual sports day was organized by adidas group at Plaza farm, Mehrauli. 170 children from 13 Udayan Ghars, along with caregivers, supervisors and Udayan Care staff celebrated the 11th adidas Group - Udayan Care Annual Sports Day on 5th February.

The chief guests, Mr. Dave Thomas, Managing Director, adidas India, and Mr. Murali Kartik, former Indian cricketer, graced the occasion with their presence. The other Guests of Honour, Ms. Helen Ashton (CFO, ASOS) and Ms. Louise Mc Cabe (Director CSR, ASOS) charmed everyone by their presence.

Mr. Dave shared his encouraging words and highlighted major achievements of some our Udayanites for their outstanding performance in the field of sports and education. The girls from Greater Noida Ghar mesmerised the audience with their energetic and peppy performance and set the tone for the rest of the event.

The sports day augured well with a cricket match between Team Udayan, led by Mr. Murali Kartik and Team Adidas led by Mr. Dave Thomas. The match came alive with the energetic commentary by Rahul Raja Sharma; our young comperes, Sachin, from Mayur Vihar Udayan Ghar, and Shivani, from Sant Nagar Udayan Ghar, kept pace and called for races, and their winners winsomely. The day just went by with so much fun and bonhomie. Thereafter, winners of different races were acknowledged and awarded, followed by a sumptuous lunch, fit for gods. Children and staff came back, with gratitude to adidas on their lips, not tired but excited and expectant for yet another Annual Day next year!
