VOL.9, NO.6 NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2015

Change is impossible without individuals who are willing to act on their beliefs, challenge the status quo and make the world a better place for everybody. Our volunteers dedicate their time and expertise to transform the lives of the children, Shalinis and young adults at Udayan Care for the better. Like the famous Chinese proverb goes, our volunteers teach them to fish so that they can feed themselves for a lifetime, giving them skills they can carry with them forever. Here’s the latest report on the volunteering activities of and at Udayan Care.

A COOL CARNIVAL

CPM India organised a post-Christmas Winter Carnival at Udayan Ghar. The event was held in December and planned meticulously by ‘KhushiyonkiGaadi’, a volunteer-led company. The excitement at the event, from the décor to food stalls, dance performances and raffle draws, was the highlight of the day. From the décor to the celebratory mood, everything was perfect. Ashish Chhabra from the renowned band Jazba was our chief guest and master entertainer for the night, singing vibrant numbers for everybody and setting the night on fire.

HALFWAY ACROSS THE WORLD, FOR REEL!

The German chapter of Udayan Care came down to India to witness the transformation brought about by Udayan Care India. They met and interviewed our Udayan Shalini Fellows – some of whom spoke to the visiting guests in German! They visited the homes of Shalinis and followed it up with a stopover at the Greater NOIDA Home, interacting wholeheartedly with mentors and children. The primary aim of their visit was a documentary film on Udayan Care’s programmes that would help in raising funds through wide viewings in Germany.

DISCOVERING A GREEN THUMB

Deeksha collaborated with Deloitte for a green initiative at our Gurgaon home, recently.

The programme involved children planting 100 tree saplings and about 150 herbal plants, after which volunteers gave a talk on the importance of having a green and healthy environment. As always, the children’s creativity was engaged through a green drawing competition.

CELEBRATING DIWALI OUT OF HOME

Udayan Care was invited by corporates like UHG, Hi-Tech e Soft/Hi-Tech Robotic Systemz Ltd. and Fusion Corporate Solutions Pvt.Ltd. to set up Diwali stalls across their offices. On display and sale were tons of handcrafted Diyas and decorations made by our children exclusively for the stalls. Needless to say, the diyas sold as fast as sweets do during the occasion!

ARROWS INITIATIVE

True to the Arrows Group‘s spirit of volunteering, a group of professionals visited the Sidhrawali IT centre in Gurgaon for a day of fun and learning. One look at the students’ faces, and the volunteers knew that they had done the right thing by alternating activities with learning sessions.

INTERNS GALORE

We had more than 20 students from prestigious colleges like Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Azim Premji University and The NORTHCAP University as interns with Udayan Care. They supported us by helping streamline various processes at our offices and spending time nurturing young minds. It was a two-way learning process, but we gained much more through them – knowledge, collaboration opportunities and lasting friendships!
